How Opus XIV earned its place among the great tobacco compositions, and what it shares with its library siblings.

Royal Tobacco: Amouage’s Opus XIV and the new golden age of tobacco perfumes

Tobacco, redeemed

Tobacco perfumes walk a line between sweetness and ash. Opus XIV Royal Tobacco chooses the golden path: warm tobacco leaf lifted by cardamom, oregano and citrus, over a base of vanilla, benzoin and woods.

The library context

As part of the Library Collection it carries the house’s higher concentration and its experimental licence — yet it is among the most immediately likeable Opuses, which is why it sold through so quickly on release.

Beside its siblings

Where Opus XIII Silver Oud is mineral and austere, Royal Tobacco is generous and golden. Together they show the library’s range: the same precision, two opposite temperatures.

Wear and performance

Expect a rich evening wear with strong longevity. In cold weather it is one of the most comforting compositions in the entire house.
